Watch Reba McEntire’s Dramatic Last-Second Chair Turn On ‘The Voice’

Shan Scott’s soulful rendition of The Revivalists’ “Wish I Knew You” seemingly wasn’t going to land her a spot on The Voice.

However, Reba McEntire turned her chair at her final opportunity, and added the 28-year-old singer from New York to Team Reba. Coach Michael Bublé told McEntire, “you are so sneaky,” after making a last-second move.

“I really wasn’t sneaky. I was just really into the music,” McEntire said, and gushed to Scott, “I love your voice.”

Bublé pointed out that if McEntire had turned her chair earlier, he and the other coaches — Niall Horan and Snoop Dogg — might have followed suit. Now, McEntire managed to claim Scott for her team without competition.

“And see the method to my madness?” McEntire said. She added, “the more she was singing, the more I fell in love with her voice.”

“I love to encourage,” McEntire said of The Voice in an interview with iHeartCountry earlier this year. “I can’t tell anybody, ‘Don’t do this. Go get a job. You’re not suited for this.’ But the way that we get to do the – I don’t say critique – advice, it’s helpful advice. It’s not tear-down. We want to lift up. We want to inspire. We want to encourage, not tear down. They get enough of that out there in the world.”
