TODAY IS:

National Pie Day: Whether your fav is cherry or apple or blueberry or pecan … today is a good day for a slice of pie.

National Handwriting Day: How often do you actually write these days? How bad has your handwriting gotten over the years?

Party panic …With the Super Bowl next weekend, parties are being planned. Can you guess the number one thing that gives people anxiety about going to a party? According to a new survey, it’s running into someone they don’t like. 63% of respondents said every party has at least one person they’d like to avoid. The survey also found that 78% said they know immediately when getting to a party if they’re going to have a good time. And it takes the average person 10 minutes to know if they’re going to leave a party early. (SWNS)

Speaking of the Super Bowl …If you plan on making a bet on the game – you may want to ask a woman to do the betting. According to sports gambling data, women have better results than men when betting on sports, and have a 19.79% return on investments compared to 4.6% for men. The reason? There’s no real science behind it, but the thinking is that women have less of an emotional connection to sports. That’s not to say that women aren’t passionate about their favorite teams and players, but when betting on sports men tend to, well, be more emotional – betting with their hearts rather than their brains. Women also bet less money and take fewer risks when betting, according to the data. (The Frisky)

And speaking of women and sports …Are women good enough to play in the NBA?Kobe Bryant thinks so. In a recent interview, Kobe said, "I think there are a couple of players who could play in the NBA right now honestly. There's a lot of players with a lot of skill that could do it." Kobe namedDiana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury (the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer),Maya Moore(four-time WNBA champion with the Minnesota Lynx) andElena Della Donneof the Washington Mystics (last year's WNBA MVP) as three WNBA players he thinks could play in the NBA.
