Pot may give you the munchies … but it doesn’t make you fat.Yep, believe it or not, a new study from Michigan State University found that cannabis users tend to weigh less than those who don’t use marijuana products. Researchers found that only 15% of cannabis users were obese, compared to 20% of those who don’t partake. In fact, the researchers found that using cannabis products could actually prevent you from gaining weight. What the researchers didn’t know, was why. “It could be something that’s more behavioral like someone becoming more conscious of their food intake as they worry about the munchies after cannabis use and gaining weight,” says lead author and professor Omayama Alshaarawy. “Or it could be the cannabis use itself, which can modify how certain cells, or receptors, respond in the body and can ultimately affect weight gain. More research needs to be done.” And volunteers for the research?(Michigan State)
